The Five Numbers Every Stylist Should Know by Heart

If I sat in your salon tomorrow and asked five questions about your business, could you answer them without opening an app? Most stylists cannot, and it is not their fault. Nobody handed us a business education with our shears. But here is the rule I have watched hold true for four decades: the stylists who know their numbers get raises every year. The ones who do not, work on hope.

The five, and why each one matters

1. Average ticket

Total service revenue divided by number of appointments. This is the single fastest lever you have: raise the average ticket by ten dollars and a 40-appointment week just gave you a serious annual raise, with zero new clients.

2. Rebooking rate

Of everyone you served this week, how many left with their next visit booked? This number predicts your future better than any other. Under 50% means your income resets to zero every morning. Over 70% means your next two months are already earned.

3. Retention at 90 days

Of the new clients you saw three months ago, how many came back? First-visit retention is where most chairs bleed. If only three in ten return, more marketing is pouring water into a cracked bucket, and the fix is in the experience, not the ads.

4. Revenue per hour

Weekly revenue divided by hours worked, gaps included. This exposes the difference between busy and profitable. A packed day of quick, underpriced services can earn less per hour than a calm day of premium work.

5. Drift count

How many clients crossed ten weeks without a future appointment? That list is not a graveyard, it is a to-do list, and working it is the cheapest revenue you will ever generate.

Fifteen minutes on Sunday

Pick a weekly time, pull the five numbers, write them on one card. That is the entire practice. Within a month you will stop guessing where the money goes, because the card will tell you, and every improvement you make will show up in next Sunday's numbers like a scoreboard.

In the challenge we go one level deeper: you bring your real numbers and we find your leak together, live. Save your free seat and bring the card.
